My love letter to this iconic and much-loved sycamore tree. Gone but never forgotten, it has played a part in so many of our lives, and I just assumed it would always be there.

I wanted this painting to take you on a journey, from joyful sunrise to deepest midwinter. This is why I chose the golden yellow, fading into sunset pinks and purples, stretching up to an intense Paynes grey at the top. When you allow the watery paint to do its own thing, the smudgy, frilly effects are always a nice surprise. Snowy scenes are my favourite, and this wintery little painting allowed me to describe the delicate network of twigs and branches within the tree which made it so recognisable. Whilst the main painting is translucent watercolour, I particularly enjoyed adding the twinkly bits with my white goache.
